Arranged by Anthony R. Green
Recommended Level: Grade 1 (Solo Quartet: Grade 3)
Yonder Come Day is a traditional African American spiritual from the Georgia Sea Islands. In this spirited arrangement, composer Anthony R. Green infuses the piece with a surprise twist — a faster, funkier interpretation that brings energy and joy to every rehearsal.
Written for string ensemble, students will explore groove, pulse, and rhythmic play through stomping, percussive techniques, and lively ensemble interaction.
The accompanying Curriculum Guide provides ready-made lesson plans focused on the musical elements that shape this arrangement: Funk, Spirituals, Work Songs, and Game Songs. Educators will also find activities and listening exercises that deepen understanding of these traditions while offering important historical context about the Gullah/Geechee Nation of the Georgia Sea Islands.
