Interdisciplinary Curator at Castle of our Skins
About the Position
The inaugural Interdisciplinary Curator will co-create and implement Castle of our Skins’ artistic vision, curating a diverse season of productions in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision and values. Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with the Castle of our Skins (COOS) artistic leadership team and other staff, he/she/they will support the development of interdisciplinary initiatives that elevate the organization's profile within the community. The Interdisciplinary Curator will engage with a wide variety of stakeholders including artists, audience members, institutional partners, and donors, while fostering deep connections in the community. Building a culture of collaboration and open communication, the Interdisciplinary Curator will be committed to hearing and uplifting diverse voices and artistic perspectives in all aspects of their work and partnership. In addition, we seek an Interdisciplinary Curator with an active artistic practice (e.g. visual, movement, media, literary, etc) and strong organizational and project management skills. At present, this is a part-time position with future possibility to become full-time.
Castle of our Skins seeks candidates with preexisting networks and relationships in the Greater Boston area and who are able to reliably commute to Boston at least twice a week for work related meetings and events. We are unable to provide relocation benefits of any kind for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:
Curatorial Leadership and Vision
-
In collaboration with COOS artistic leadership team, co-create a compelling artistic vision that reflects the breadth of African diasporic arts, histories, and narratives while advancing Castle of our Skins’ mission, vision and values.

Develop and curate, in partnership with the rest of the COOS artistic leadership team, multidisciplinary experiences and opportunities including panel discussions, artist talks, artistic workshops, calls for artists, other self-produced events/those produced by a presenting organization.

Maintain awareness of current trends and best practices within the field, while using such knowledge to creatively meet the evolving needs of audience members.
Community Building and Representation
-
Nurture relationships with community organizations, cultural institutions and artistic talent to foster the development and presentation of new works and long-lasting partnerships.
Administrative Leadership and Staff Collaboration
-
Assist in artistic project management and various production coordination needs.

Collaborate with the COOS artistic leadership team and staff to ensure organizational messaging, operations, and artist/audience engagement initiatives are in alignment with Castle of our Skins’ artistic vision.
Qualifications

Proven ability to evaluate programs for mission alignment, equity, and impact.

Excellent communication and public-speaking skills, with experience representing an organization to funders, partners, media, and audiences.
Minimum Qualifications:

Deep commitment to our mission, vision and values, Black history, arts, and cultural representation.

Minimum 3 years of experience in artistic leadership, curation, or cultural programming, with experience casting a vision, managing/organizing projects, and leading organizational growth.

Active artistic practice of the highest caliber.
Compensation & Benefits
-
Part-time, up to 25 hours per week (hybrid) position: two, in-person work days in Nubian Square (Roxbury) with additional days of remote work.

Required flexibility for some additional weekdays, nights, and weekends for select concerts and other events throughout the year.

Salary: $45,000.

Organizational benefits including medical extensive paid time off, including 10 days of PTO, 7 sick days, 14 observed holidays, 2 two week-long administrative closures (summer and winter), remote work days.

Music Curator at Castle of our Skins

Position Description
Teaching Artists play a crucial role in executing various educational initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement and Partnerships, Teaching Artists engage in projects centered around curriculum development, in-school instruction, and producing edu-tainment programs for community partners.
Duties and Responsibilities (assigned based on Teaching Artists’ interest areas)

Edu-tainment Series Development and Instruction - Develop programs in one or both categories, to lead in community spaces:
-
Recitals - 30-60 minute performative programs showcase the history and music of a singular black composers or collection of black composers
-
Interactive Workshops - 30-60 minute culturally-responsive, interactive experiences for K-12 students and families around a central theme/idea in Black music or history
-
-
In-School Classroom Visits - Instruct Castle of our Skins curriculum and/or other curated lessons in school classrooms or after-school music programs
-
Instrumental Coachings - Lead sectional coachings in school classrooms or after-school music programs, either tied to Castle of our Skins’ side-by-side collaborations or general artistic support
Qualifications
-
Prior teaching experience, including (but not limited to) direct student instruction, curriculum development, and community-based performances
-
Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate music program that have participated in the Intercollegiate BSU Fellowship are eligible to apply
-

A passion for working directly with the youth and diverse communities
-
Highly organized with strong project management and communication skills, along with the ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teaching artists
-
Committed to intersectional racial equity and anti-racism, with an interest in Black history and culture
