WITNESS: Art, Remembrance, and Collective Care
This interdisciplinary residency at Hibernian Hall creates multiple opportunities for artists and audiences to gather around questions of memory, loss, and collective care. Inspired by Rosalyn D. Elder’s embroidered memorials from The Requiem Project, the residency explores how art can hold space for remembrance, healing, and connection while honoring African American youth whose lives were taken through state-sanctioned violence and the families, friends, and communities who continue to hold their memory and carry their stories forward. Through exhibition, conversation, artistic engagement, and a culminating concert experience, WITNESS invites audiences into a collective act of remembrance.
Together, these experiences affirm the power of art to preserve memory, cultivate care, and strengthen community.
