About the event
Castle of our Skins blends music, dance & visual art in this one-of-a-kind showcase of Black artistry. String quartets by Florence Price & Jessie Montgomery share the stage with world premiere works inspired by African masks & South African artist Nicholas Hlobo’s “Tyaphaka” sculpture – a larger than life exploration of the submerged.
Musical Program: Voodoo Dolls by Jessie Montgomery
Static Dance (world premiere) by Pang Chun-ting (with a presentation on African Masks by L’Merchie Frazier)
Five Folksongs in Counterpoint by Florence Price (paired with quilts depicting African American/American life)
Tyaphaka (world premiere) by Clifton Ingram (paired with a contemporary dance performance by Lexy Lattimore and followed immediately by a talk-back with the composer, dancer and musicians)
