About the event
Join us on March 8, for a tribute, co-curated by NEC’s Black Student Union and Castle of our Skins, to the late NEC alumna and activist Coretta Scott King ’54, ’71 hon. DM.
NEC alumna Ashleigh Gordon ’08 MM, who with NEC alumnus Anthony Green ’08 MM founded Castle of our Skins, a Boston-based organization “dedicated to fostering cultural curiosity and celebrating Black artistry through music,” said the March 8 program will “use (King’s) words and give her voice airtime.”
The concert, titled “One Soul. One Dream,” a nod to King’s own words, will remember King “as we know her in association to her family, fellow activists, and global community" Gordon said. This thoughtful program includes Adolphus Hailstork’s Morning Song and I’ve Seen the Day, William Grant Still’s “Lyric” Quartet, Solomon Kehinde Oretimehin’s Magbagbemi, Carlos Simon’s Hold Fast to Dreams, Maxwell Fairman’s Duo for Flute and Clarinet, Shileta Peregrino Cezario’s All That I Am, Fred Onovwerosuoke’s arrangement…
