About the event
Fifty years to the day after the Combahee River Collective Statement was released, this interdisciplinary gathering invites artists and audiences into a shared experience shaped by artistic expression, conversation, and collective imagination. Moving between history, memory, and possibility, COMBAHEE creates space to experience the enduring spirit of Black feminist and queer thought through collective listening and creative exchange. The evening honors the radical roots of the Black feminist, lesbian, socialist organization founded in Boston by Barbara Smith, Beverly Smith, and Demita Fraizer that shaped the movement while opening pathways toward liberated futures.
More than a commemoration, COMBAHEE invites audiences to consider how Black feminist thought continues to shape our creativity, our communities, and our collective future.
