Poet

My name is Tierra Holmes, and I am a creative writer and performer from Philadelphia, PA. I was inspired to write after seeing my mother submit her poetry to the local newspapers and also after discovering the power of storytelling through writing. One day, when I was a teenager, something angered and upset me to the point where I felt compelled to release the energy that was building inside of me. Unsure of what to do, I began staring at the ceiling and thinking very intently about my options. Then at some point, maybe in an attempt to mentor myself, I thought of the words “positive transformations” and a lightbulb went off. I needed to transform my anger into something positive, something that could absorb my pain and put it to good use. From that idea, “My pain transformed into poetry” became the first line of a poem that changed my life. Positive Transformations was the poem that healed me, it was the poem that shocked me when I finished writing it because I couldn’t believe that my pain could become something so beautiful. And from that day on, like many others, writing became my tool for self-expression, self-exploration, and self-care.Writing is also my way of capturing significant moments and re-sharing it with the world. It’s how I communicate and cultivate a learning space where we can witness ourselves and others navigate life.
