Darius Edwards

Composer

Darius Edwards is a saxophonist and composer from Nashville, Tennessee. He will be graduating from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville with a Bachelor’s Degree in music education with an emphasis in saxophone performance and a minor in music composition. As a performer, Edwards was named a winner in the 2020 University of Tennessee School of Music Concerto Competition, the 2019 Knoxville Music Study Club Scholarship Competition, and has been invited to perform at the International Saxophone Symposium hosted by the U.S. Navy Band. As a composer, Edwards’ premieres new works for saxophone and piano, saxophone quartet, saxophone ensemble, and wind ensemble. In addition, he has had his work selected for publication and actively commissions new music on top of his coursework. His works and performances can be found on SoundCloud and Youtube as well as his social media channels. Edwards was an officer and founding member of the University of Tennessee’s Black Musicians Alliance (est. Fall 2019), a student-led organization dedicated to representing students of color and promoting underrepresented musicians. He was also a member of Phi Mu Alpha’s Theta-Omicron chapter and has previously served as the social media coordinator and music director.
