Cydney “Cyd” Ahlberg, who goes by the pseudonym CJ Giovanni, is a versatile artist known for her exceptional poetic talent. Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, CJ’s roots are deeply intertwined with the vibrant tapestry of Black heritage, an influence that profoundly shapes her work. As "the legacy poet," she has become a luminary in the realm of poetry, her words resonating with the essence of her cultural and historical background.CJ's artistic path reached a pivotal moment when she enrolled at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), class of 2018, delving into the complexities of visual expression. In 2021, she furthered her journey by founding her freelance graphic design, photography, and visual arts business under the name Cydvolution Art LLC. As a professional graphic designer and photographer, CJ expertly balances her time between these visual arts, her passion for poetry, and making music, creating multidimensional works that convey profound messages.CJ discovered her passion for poetry early on, using her verses as a profoundoutlet for self-expression and introspection. From sharing her compositions in middle school to achieving acclaim such as being named the 2023 Savannah Grammar Poetry Slam Second Place Winner, CJ's poetic journey has been marked by significant personal and artistic evolution. Over time, her poetry has matured to delve deeply into themes of identity, spirituality, mental health, life experiences, and love.Inspired by the richness of Black literature and culture, CJ’s poetry harmonizes with the rhythms of life and echoes historical melodies. Influenced by pioneering poets such as Nikki Giovanni and Sonia Sanchez, she explores the essence of the Black experience, examines her spirituality, and navigates the complexities of mental health, love, and life. The release of her debut single, "miss andry," in February 2024, signifies a new phase in her poetic journey. Continuing to explore the intersection of art and activism, CJ Giovanni’s words shine as a beacon of hope and inspiration, guiding toward a more just and equitable world.
