Adero Knott (she/her) is a curator and artist, who debuted at Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago, curating "Disability and Perspective", one of four exhibitions belonging to the Commons Artist Project of Norman Teague + Folayemi Wilson's blkHaUS studios. Accessibility and intersectional identities are at the heart of her curatorial practice. Often exploring ways artists and curators have the power to innovate making art accessible to everyone, such as adding captions to videos, using ramps and not stairs leading to installations, image descriptions and sensory experiences.Adero is a congenital amputee who understands from experience just how uncomfortable and inaccessible prosthetic limbs of today are. She is a prosthetics designer and the founder of AK Prosthetics, a robotics startup making customized prosthetics and adaptive wearables accessible and inclusive. AK Prosthetics is currently developing the AK Creator app, that empowers amputees to Scan, Create and Print customized prosthetics from the comfort and safety of their homes.Adero is a classically trained violinist and composer inspired by Impressionist composers such as Erik Satie, folk Hungarian composer Bela Bartok, and a plethora of jazz musicians.Adero has been featured in Forbes, Chicago Sun-Times and American Inno for her innovative work in the community of Chicago. Adero recently received the ADA 25 Advancing Leadership Fellow of 2020 award, a SoGal Foundation Black Founders Grantee of 2020, amd the Evanston Art Center Curatorial Fellow of 2020-2021.
