COOS Open Call for Scores
for composers from the african Diaspora

Calling all Composers from the African Diaspora!

For composers who are from the African diaspora, Castle of our Skins (COOS) is opening a free, ongoing call for score consideration. Composers are free to send chamber scores (solo to 8 instruments) with recordings to include in the COOS library for future possible programming. Works of any duration will be considered, with the caveat that individual movements from multi-movement works may be extracted for performances (if permission is granted by the composer). While COOS welcomes any score to be considered, please read the general guideline below:

  • Scores for solo performers up to 8 players are preferred, although 9+ will be accepted. In general, COOS produces chamber concerts.
  • Scores that focus on voice, piano, winds, and strings will be favored, although works with other instruments and electronics will also be accepted for consideration.
  • COOS regularly works with spoken word artists and dancers. Scores that include elements of spoken word or collaboration with dance are highly encouraged.
  • Works that include elements of improvisation are also welcome, including open ensemble scores, text scores, and graphically notated works.

To submit your works, please create an electronic folder with the following documents:

  • Score PDF(s)
  • Recording(s); live recordings are preferred, MIDI is accepted but highly discouraged
  • Optional: short bio (350 words max), professional headshot, any additional notes
  • When the folder is complete, create a shareable link
  • Copy the link and send it to info@castleskins.org, in an email with the subject heading: COOS Open Call for Scores
  • PLEASE DO NOT SEND ATTACHMENTS!!! LINKS ONLY!!!

Electronic folders can be using Google (at drive.google.com when you are logged into your Google account), Dropbox, WeTransfer, and other platforms that can send links to large files. Creating ZIP files is also an option, as well as sending links to individual files in one e-mail, although this is not preferred. If digital submissions are not possible for you, please write to info@castleskins.org to discuss alternative methods to submit your score.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO RECEIVING YOUR WORKS, GETTING TO KNOW A BIT MORE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR MUSIC, AND SUPPORTING YOUR ARTISTRY!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
