Call for Belonging
Castle of our Skins seeks artists of different disciplines to create interactive experiences that answer the question: "What does it mean to belong to a person, to a place, to yourself?". Up to five artist designed experiences will be included in a collection of “Connection Stations” that are participatory driven and designed to facilitate the process of belonging. They will be showcased on Sunday, November 5th from 3-4pm at Hibernian Hall (184 Dudley Street, Nubian Square) and immediately followed by an immersive mix of music, dance, and spoken word performances. The full Belonging experience of “Connection Stations” + immersive performance is curated by the 2023-2024 Shirley Graham du Bois Creative in Residence, dancer Jenny Oliver.
Thank you for your interest. The application period for this opportunity has passed. Stay tuned for more on this project and join us for Belonging on Sunday, November 5th, 2023.
what interactive experiences are acceptable?
We’re looking for audience-participatory experiences involving already finished 2D & 3D art mediums, installations with relatively quick set up/tear down times, projection/video projects, free-standing sculpture-based works, and/or creative writing activities. The artists’ work must be family-friendly and appropriate for diverse audiences. We are excited and open to working collaboratively to adapt projects, if needed, to fit the nature of this call and its interactive element. Our goal is to encourage audiences to engage - not only be a witness to - an afternoon that invites and welcomes a feeling of belonging.
