In celebration of jubilee day!
New Year's day is often called Jubilee Day to commemorate the historic signing of the Emancipation Proclamantion on
January 1, 1863, which declared that enslaved persons in rebellious states "shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free."
In honor of Jubilee Day, COOS would like to sing its own jubilee and offer this performance
from our "Oh, Freedom!" project.
Happy Jubilee Day!

"Song of the Coffle Gang "
A powerful song said to have been sung by enslaved men and women
as they were led from ships, shackled and chained, into America.
If not their actual words, their ethos was musically embodied
in this song by abolitionist George W. Clark.
